Bandtober
It was the season of "Gravity." The show was great this year. But unfortunately we're in one of the toughest areas in the state of Texas. We came in 5th in Area...one spot away from qualifying for the State Competition. It was tough being that close. But we were very proud of the work these students put into the show.

So Much...
So much has happened this month and I really have no excuse in not writing about it. I mean, I keep a moleskine journal...but not to blog? No real excuse. Honestly I post on this blog just for me. I'm not even sure anyone other than me sees this.
Marching Band Competitions
Equine Therapy
Harry Potter Themed Birthday Party
Whole family gets sick
College visits to Oklahoma
Eclipse
Choir Concert
and more...
It has been a busy October.

60%
My Kindle tells me I have read 60% of Tolstoy’s War and Peace as of this morning. I’m still reading a little of it it every day. Usually one short chapter during breakfast.
I have to admit that it wasn’t until I reached that 60% mark that I felt I was making some real progress on this book. It’s still a slog. Anna Karenina is a much better read. Much like Moby Dock, when the book sticks with the narrative, it’s pretty good. But there’s so much off story wanderings. Only 40% left to go!

Conducting
Last Friday I got the honor of guest conducting one stand tune for the high school marching band. I don't think my son was too embarrassed. We played the classic "Hey Baby!" I was just glad not to fall off that shaky podium. I was given the honor because of my part in finding and publicizing an online poll that the school marching band won as the DFW Marching Band of the Year.

OU-SMU
Last week I took my son to his first OU game in Norman. I can't believe it took me this long to take him to see a Sooner home game. We've been to plenty of SMU games. As soon as I saw that OU and SMU had scheduled a home and away series I knew I had to go. I grew up a lifelong Sooner fan but got a degree from SMU so I wore an SMU shirt and an OU hat to the game.
We met up with my Uncle and Aunt who have season tickets and had a great time. We had to take photos by all the statues and the Sooner Schooner. I think my son enjoyed the pageantry. We will be returning to OU in October for an official college visit. SMU put up a good fight until the fourth quarter before the Sooners put them away. It was a fun game to watch.
