Icehenge

Icehenge by Kim Stanley Robinson. One of KSR's earliest works. Bought it for $1.50. Looks like a pulp sci fi novel but contains great truths about time, existence and social constructs. It's also a scientific mystery novel but the mystery never really gets solved and that makes it work even better as a story. KSR never disappoints.

Eclipse

Back in October there was an eclipse. We were ready. Barely. Our Eclipse Glasses were delivered by Amazon about an hour earlier.

New Moon

There was one day last month where my wife and I were able to get away from the kids. We headed to Klyde Warren Park for the New Moon Festival. We made Chinese calligraphy and ate great food.

Potter

We recently threw a Harry Potter themed party for my daughter. She had a few of her best friends over for the night. They ended the night outside watching the first Harry Potter movie projected on the side of my storage building by a fire pit eating smores.

Bandtober

It was the season of "Gravity." The show was great this year. But unfortunately we're in one of the toughest areas in the state of Texas. We came in 5th in Area...one spot away from qualifying for the State Competition. It was tough being that close. But we were very proud of the work these students put into the show.

So much has happened this month and I really have no excuse in not writing about it. I mean, I keep a moleskine journal...but not to blog? No real excuse. Honestly I post on this blog just for me. I'm not even sure anyone other than me sees this.

60%

My Kindle tells me I have read 60% of Tolstoy’s War and Peace as of this morning. I’m still reading a little of it it every day. Usually one short chapter during breakfast.

I have to admit that it wasn’t until I reached that 60% mark that I felt I was making some real progress on this book. It’s still a slog. Anna Karenina is a much better read. Much like Moby Dock, when the book sticks with the narrative, it’s pretty good. But there’s so much off story wanderings. Only 40% left to go!
